It was a comedy skit! That is what they do it poke fun at situations and people! You think the celebrities are happy about when they get made fun of? Get over it and stop being so damn sensitive people! I hate this overly politically correct world we live in!

What did the skit have to do with Hawaiian culture? It was making fun of how tourists are seen by the locals. It could apply to any tourist trap, anywhere.

The Hawaiian tourist industry just doesn't want to admit the obvious truth, as they need those tourist dollars. Bunch of transparent hypocrites.

I don't know if the skit is funny or not, but I do think that MSNBC is only pushing this nonstory near the top of its headlines because it makes a reference to NBC-affiliated Hulu. How many people do think will read it, then go check it out on Hulu? A lot, I think... That's one credibility demerit for MSNBC...

Those people need to get over themselves. There is noone watching SNL who actually thinks that's the way things are in Hawaii. SNL is a parody show that makes fun of everything. Take it for the laugh it was meant to be and get on with your lives.

I was a Haole for 3 years. This is how many locals (Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese, Filipinos, Samoans, and native Hawaiians...) view mainlanders. Not all of course, but some for sure. just ask a 'local' how long it can take a Haole to be considered Kama'aina

Which Airline cried like a baby when they did the "Buh bye" Sketch? Did Ron Popel get pissy over the "Bass-O-Matic"? Good Grief, its SNL- Get Over yourself HI! If anyone found it offensive maybe it was because they felt lik ethey were seeing themselves? And if they we offended- Welcome to LIFE! No one ever said you would get thru it without being offended! The Lt. Governor is more upset about the skit harming a hurting tourism industry than the skit being offensive to any culture. People need to lighten up.

I don't think they would be offended or so worried if it wasn't for the fact that it is true. I've been to HI a couple of time for vacation and any interactions with locals has been horrible. They act as though you have stolen from them personally... they are rude to down right mean, when all I've done is come to their home for vacation. Heck, if not for all the "fat white american" tourist they would still be living in huts... that's right, no SPAM! I don't go to HI anymore, and not because of SNL's skit. It was funny btw, because it is true. Instead I choose to vacation where my patronage is valued, not just tolerated, or even loathed! To the Lt. Gov. of HI I would say if you have a problem with the SNL skit then perhaps you and the people you govern should take a look inward.

Reedonkulous!! This is no insult of Hawaiian culture. It accurately portrays the dumbed-down version any culture has to sell to tourists.

The hardest job I ever had was schlepping drinks at a Hawaiian resort's beach (before they were busted for the illegality of it). Idiots would always tell me that my job must be like going on a vacation everyday. Right! Did you notice that I'm not swimming, sitting, drinking, eating, reading? Did you notice that I'm running up and down this beach carrying a heavy tray for clueless morons who expect me to run and fetch a glass of "lemon water"? Did you notice that you just tipped me 25 cents for running a glass of cola out to your beached whale of a bod?

Lighten up Hawaii tourist industry. You should be glad you are getting the attention.

I take offense to your offense. It's SATIRE!!! Lighten up. Can't it be OK once in a while to just laugh at ourselves. Everyone gets their turn at being the butt of the joke... this just happens to be Hawaii's. I doubt people are going to rely on SNL for legitimate travel tips.

For crying out loud, it was just a mildly funny comedy skit. If tourism is declining in Hawaii, it's because people are BROKE and can't afford expensive vacations - not because of one SNL skit! Like anyone is going to say, Hmm, I was planning to take a luxurious trip to Hawaii, but that SNL skit with The Rock made it look like a crappy place to visit, so I think I'll just stay home!!

The truth hurts, and hurts bad, doesn't it Hawaiian tourist bureau? The fact is that while the tourist trade brings in dollars locally and does provide jobs, most are menial and dead-end occupations. Take a survey of the local workers and see what they think of the situation. You'd get an earfull if you had the guts to ignore the local chamber of commerce threats. Some tourists decide to buy second homes in the area raising the local prices beyond the reach of those of modest means. Most tourists are selfish, in-a-hurry bores. Take one of the biggest natural attractions, the Grand Canyon. Of the millions who visit each year most are there for four hours or less. How does that qualify as a meaningful relationship with the area? I wish SNL would parody Arizona and Tucson so we might scare away all the so-called tourist industry that comes for some meaningless golf tournament or spring training event.

Sounds like parody struck a nerve. HI should either lighten up or look introspectively. Casting stones at SNL only makes the skit more believable.

When we visited Hawaii we had a couple hair salons actually turn my wife away when she inquired about getting her hair done for our wedding. They stated they didnt serve mainlanders....Wonder if the LT Gov would be concerned about that as well?

I live in Hawaii...I thought it was funny. No complaints, it was meant to make fun of people just like some comedians in Hawaii make a living. Who cares in my honest opinion. A waste of tabloid space.

As a traveler to different Hawaiian Islands at least twice a year I've encountered many natives that dislike Americans and tourists. However they have always been polite in the explanation of their displeasure. When touring the Napali Coast by boat the captain was very militant in regard to his opinion of the constant construction development. There are public television programs broadcast in Hawaii which are very militant.

When touring the palace in Honolulu last year the receptionist was quite outspoken about the negative way Hawaii was acquired by the USA and supported efforts to reclaim portions of Hawaii for the natives.

The Saturday Night Live skit was poking fun at the tourist trade and they spoofed obnoxious behavior which occurs by both tourists and the natives.

If the politicians don't like the betrayal then maybe they should allow Hawaiians to govern themselves and I don't think they find that funny either.

Like everything else in life, it's all about the money!!!

If Hawaii was in the middle of booming prosperity this would not be an issue.

But since it isn't the "big money" and the "big money lackeys" (politicians) have no sense of humor. This clown would be on good morning america playing up the quite factual portrayal of the locals and tourists for a good laugh and of course more tourist dollars. welcome to the U.S.O. Hey, people from Hawaii complaining about a skit on SNL, just so you know, the fact that you are complaining about a show that everyone in America knows is a joke makes me at least 20 times more likely to want to visit somewhere else than any skit would ever do. At least I know I won't run into you dumb@sses somewhere else!

SNL makes fun of everyone...it's their job...if people are complaining they must be doing it right. If you're offended...CHANGE THE CHANNEL...or shut up.
