So many cities in the U.S. now have gastronomic diversity and regionality rich in every department. There has never been a better time to dine out around the U.S. than right now.

Buffalo actually has a variety of very nice, quality restaurants--not just chicken wings, either!
This is a misleading article. Its initial boasts concern the plethora of amazing restaurants all over the country, yet it sticks to the same grastronomically cliched cities. I would like to have seen some coverage of other markets, such as all of the southern United States for example. Has this person never been to Austin? Savannah? Philly? Madison? Baltimore? Sante Fe? Pound for pound, these five cities offer FAR better eating than Vegas, Chicago, San Fran, or NY. New Orleans is the exception. Let's see some articles that highlight the gastronomy of all our cities so that people can become aware of alternative food choices aside from fast food culture destroyers like Applebees, Chili's, On the Boarder, Chipotle, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, and etc. The list of evil America food establishments goes on and on.

Spoken like a true food snob
A retort fitting for the ubiquitous and provincial American palate. This country could deal with a bit more gastronomic snobbery. Eat my quenelle.
The author has obviously never been to Buffalo, NY. I grew up there, but now live in San Diego. I travel extensively as part of my job, and I can tell you from first-hand experience that Buffalo has some of the finest restaurants that I've ever been to. Whether you are looking for a classic Italian meal, or a more contemporary fusion menu, Buffalo has many first-rate options. Obviously, Buffalo is not NYC or Chicago, but the snide remark about Buffalo is really just untrue. The writer of this article should be made aware of their ignorance.
i'm really just curious...John Mariani - have you been to Buffalo and really think we don't have great restaurants or did you just pick a few cities to fill in that line in the article?
A stereotypical article written by a stereotypical jackass that obviously shows that he writes about places he has never been too.
Anyone who thinks Buffalo is synonymous with "worthless place" obviously hasn't been there.
The author of this article is as ignorant as those who think that it snows in Buffalo year round. Would you please visit the city and try the food... then write about it? That is called journalism... but you must be from the Fox News school, just make up s%!# as you go.
I have travelled to Buffalo before, and, John Mariani, you obviously have not done your research before writing this article. I took a vacation to Niagara Falls, and made a stop in Buffalo during my vacation. I can say that this fine city's dining options are on par with more well known cities of Toronto, Chicago, or even some west coast cities, to say the least. The snide remark you made about Buffalo and Detroit is absolutely fabricated. My advice to you is to do your research (really, do it) before you make such accusations. What a disappointment you are to MSNBC.
I also think Buffalo gets a bad rap. Believe it or not some exciting things are happening up there.
Buffalo has some of the best food in the country! I still miss it.
Not to jump on the Buffalo bandwagon but I've been there a few times for business and have had some really fantastic experiences. I'd put it on par with a number of cities the author cites as being outstanding cities and a head of a few of them.
