Everyone is doing something when there driving, eating, women putting on makeup, smoking....what ever. Cell phones are just the latest thing to focus on. Oh, and to Witchking......you are nuts!!
Definitely agree with you Tim on the fact that "Cell phones are just the latest thing to focus on" In addition to eating, putting on make-up (which I have a problem just trying to do that in the passenger seat very precisely), and smoking, I've seen people watching movies, reading books, even going through radio channels agressively to the point of great distraction, taking off/putting on a coat, and there's always those who don't do any of the above mentioned distracting things, but when something drops, will lean over to pick it up, even if they're eyes go below the view of the windshield, while continuing to drive! We don't take it upon ourselves to use good common sense and judgement so we are then forced to rely on the government to create and uphold new laws. If someone calls me while I'm on the road, I use my judgment to determine if I should answer it, and if I do, should I pull over. My job requires a lot of drive time through some often very "dead-looking" areas and I might well answer a text message, but I keep it short and I refused to buy a touch screen or qwerty pad phone because I wanted to feel the buttons and be limited to just a few buttons one thumb has to navigate so I don't take my eyes off the road except to read that initial quick message. If the person sent me a long message, I either wait to where I going or pull over to read and answer. Use common sense and your best judgement people!
I feel very bad for those who can't do 2 things at once. I can. I have been changing audio tapes, smoking, eating and driving since 1982. Now, I've quit smoking but I text and drive while going over 70 mph. I've had some close calls over the years, but none recently. It is a learned task. You have to practice. Don't try to hold me back.

Cell phone use while driving indicates a person unable to manage their time properly, as well as having a lack of common sense & courtesy.
