Sorry, Glenda, I thought I was the first to post so I didn't mean to "copy" - With that said, I (obviously) can not agree more. It tells American's a LOT about Italy! IE - DON'T GO THERE!!!!!
I'm sorry but this is disgusting! American Amanda Knox gets convicted - WITHOUT CREDITABLE EVIDENCE - of killing her roommate and was sentenced to 26 YEARS IN JAIL - and Italy is allowing a man that ADMITTED to sailing a $800M+ boat "too close" to shore and causing the fiasco that ACTUALLY KILLED AT LEAST 17 PEOPLE - the pleasure of HOUSE ARREST?!?!?!? Really??? Italy, you and your justice system are...jeez, I can't even describe the just how ridiculous and obviously Anti-American your policies are! You're just a sad country...
Yes, keep him under house arrest in his captain's stateroom aboard the ship.
He is not nearly like Adm. Yamaguchi (insisted on going down with his stricken carrier Hiryu), nor Captain Langsdorff (shot himself after having to scuttle his battleship Graf Spee). In short, not made from Captain's stuff.
I think one of the reasons why he has been afforded the luxury of house arrest is that if they sent him to prison he most likely, and deservedly so, get his ass beat! I wonder how long it will be before he is brought to trial or offered a plea? From what I've learned about the Italian justice system watching the Knox trial, is that it moves at glacial speed so most likely it will be some time before we see him in court. In the meantime Schettino, I suggest you start hitting the weight pile and stock up on some soap on a rope!!
Bet if his name was Amanda Knox he would would be locked up in prison and presumed guilty....not living at home!

Forget house arrest, put him in a REAL prison! He is, after all, a cowardly criminal, and that is where he belongs.
